Nienhuis, L. (Bert) 

Lambertus/Bert Nienhuis started in 1895 as a plateel-painter/designer at De Distel. Mark/backstamp: mark of pottery factory or in full Bert Nienhuis.

Bert Nienhuis  had in 1897 his own pottery factory and merged in 1901 with the Distel, Distel's artistic manager till 1912, very successfull with mat glazes. Produced in Germany his first unica/single pieces & ceramic sculptures/figures. His designs of the half mat white background decorative art vases with abstract decorations are honoured several times internationally.

In Watergraafsmeer he founded Lotus , factory of tiles with figural and nature decorations, ceramics teacher in Duitsland and the Netherlands, this potter is focused at color and model, less decorations. Designer for Goedewaagen of dinnerware in 1935. In his later work, unica/single pieces Nienhuis predominates models and glazes over decoration, inspired at the oriental Persian, Japanese and Chinese ceramics.
