Vaart, Jan van der       


Jan van der Vaart is an autodidact, designed next to unica/single pieces also multiples/serial art pottery with pour-technics. Multiples (most known tulip vases): the models are pulled out the mould in one piece, with unika, the different parts are poured seperate and later on joined together. Mark/backstamp: Jan van der Vaart.

Vermeulen, Pottenbakkerij       


Pottenbakkerij Vermeulen, this pottery factory made primarily (rustic handcrafted) red baking with white decorated ceramics. Covered with transparant lead glaze. Take over in 1965 by Tichelaars Koninklijke Makkumer Aardewerk- en Tegelfabriek/Pottery & Tile Factory, which produced also hollow-ware/kitchenware items. Mark/backstamp: Pottenbakkerij Vermeulen.

Vlieg-Uut, Aardewerkfabriek De       


Hollow-ware/kitchenware and decorative pottery, like cups and saucers with carved out rims, presented at the Spring Exhibition of 1956, hand decorated occassional/commemorative ceramics. Willem Stuurman & C.A. Klaar were designers for Pottery Factory/Aardewerkfabriek De Vlieguut. Mark/backstamp: Vlieg-Uut Soest.

Vos, C.H.M.       


Charles Vos was (1929) designer and had his own workshop at de Sphinx, Vos made a.o. religious sceneries, hollow-ware pottery and ceramic sculptures/figures. Mark/backstamp: mask/head, see picture.

Vries, W.H. de       


Willem de Vries had his own little ceramics workshop pottenbakkerij 'Elfhoeven' between 1936-1938. In 1932 designed just for a short while for St. Lukas and en assisted Bert Nienhuis in his workshop in the beginning of 1933. Worked between 1933-1936 at Gouda Pottery Factory Regina, he begins as plaster-pourer, mould-maker, hand-turner and worked himself up to designer.

Wichman, E.       


Controversial artist, in the last two decades of his life Erich Wichmann designed vases and masks. Since half 1920s Wichmann designed pottery dinner sets for the Decorative Art Department of Zuid Holland, based on royalties. Mark/backstamp: W on Zuid Holland pottery.

German couple Wildenhain started their own workshop/atelier 't Kruikje' in Putten, Holland in 1933.Mark/backstamp: see picture, little crock. Between 1918-1930: Lilliputter.

Zaalberg, Pottenbakkerij       


Family company: 1918-1937 H. Zaalberg Sr., 1937-1962, M.H. Zaalberg, 1962 H. Zaalberg Jr. First named Pottery Factory/Pottenbakkerij De Rijn, Mark/backstamp Zaalberg Holland, since 1942 Zaalberg only uses markstamps on their ceramics.

Zenith, BV, Plateelbakkerij en Pijpenfabrieken v/h Firma P.J. van der Want Azn       


Originally Zenith  was a Gouda Pipe-Factory, Art Nouveau: decorative art pottery and hollow-ware/kitchenware ceramics (used dark clay) with nature decoration and a gloss glaze, like in the brown and deep purple of decor Clymatis after 1915. In the 1920s Pottery Factory/Plateelbakkerij Zenith in Gouda, moved over at mat glazes (flower decors Ruby, Daisy, Vera, Percy) and decoration at pre-burn glaze. Mark/backstamp: Zenith Gouda, sometimes label: mixed Z G, echt glazuur.

Zuid Holland, NV, Koninklijke Plateelbakkerij       


PZH, Plateelbakkerij/Pottery Factory Zuid Holland had a lot of prestige in the world of goudsplateel/Gouda Pottery and hired the best designers. Mark/backstamp: the little house, Lazarus Gate, Zuid Holland, Gouda or Plazuid, PZH. Jumping deer, Holland or De Duif (= pigeon) Den Dolder.

Hard, simple turned (mostly grey) pottery with horizontal circle lines in blue, green or orange. Mostly ceramic plates, flowerpots and vases. In 1927 Pottery Factory De Zwing founded by (former employee of Kennemer Potterij) K. Mertens. Mark/backstamp: De Zwing Noordwijk
