Gelria, Gouda pottery factory in Arnhem. Simple decorative pottery with sprayed cold-lacquer, imitation of Gouda decorations. Pottery factory Regina made an appeal to the Copyright-Act of 1912 for a too obvious imitation of a decor for decorative pottery. Mark/backstamp see picture.

Gispen, W.H.        


Industrial designer Willem Hendrik Gispen founded in 1948 a little pottery factory in Rijswijk, produced decorative art pottery: vases, bowls some with and some without figural decoration. Painted with mud, decorated with sgrafitto technics, gloss glaze & lamps. Mark/backstamp: WG of WHG.

Plateelbakkerij Goedewaagen, this Gouda pottery factory developed from Gouda Pipes Factory to a prominent company in decorative art ceramics and contemporary hollow-ware/household pottery, still in operation. Mark/backstamp see picture.

Groninger Steenfabrieken ADCO NV       


Groninger Steenfabrieken, this pottery factory from Groningen produced in the Thirties simple, one coloured kitchenware/hollow-ware items, like flowerpots, jugs and vases. Trained ceramists from Germany, Hungary and Czech Republic were the techical and artistic brains of this factory. Mark/backstamp: ADCO.

Plateelbakkerij Haga, this pottery factory was specialized in figures/sculptures and Nieuwe Kunst/New Art vases. Joint venture of NV Terracotta- en Aardewerkfabriek Haga and Weduwe N. Brantjes.

Ham, J.C. Jan van       


Jan van Ham was jointly-founder of De Vier Paddenstoelen/ The Four Mushrooms between 1923 - 1942 , thinner pottery produced because of Van Ham, since 1930 more sober simplified ceramics in model and decoration. Vases get straight shapes like sphere, funnel or cylinder models with glaze experiments.

Potter Maria Hobbel had her own workshop in Laren till 1944, hollow-ware and decorative art pottery at the potter's wheel, glazed ceramics inspired at the Chinese and Japanese cultural Liberation Crocks/Pots. Student of Chris Lanooy. Mark/backstamp M Laren.

Hofstede Crull, W.H.       


Potter Thera Hofstede Crull had her own workshop in Doetinchem (1928), Zwolle (1932), Ommen (1934) and in Amsterdam (1940). Sober shaped hollow-ware pottery with soft colours, kneadable/hand-thrown and potter's wheel models. Mark/backstamp: oyo man.

Fayencefabriek Holland, Utrecht, this faience factory made decorative art pottery: clock sets, vases, hollow-ware, etc. (recognizable own style) similar to Zuid Holland, Rozenburg and Haga, Leurs and Heytze were designers coming from Rozenburg , simple shaped dinnerware and tiles, after design Berlage and Jac. van den Bosch. Potter Nel Houtman experimented with glazes, by mixing loam glaze, tin glaze and glass glaze. Influenced by oriental ceramics. Own pottery workshop in Hilversum (1923), Zeeland (1932), Amsterdam (1959). Mark/backstamp: Signed with Nel, also NH.

Hubers, D Dirk       


Dirk Hubers worked since 1938 at Putten's pottery factory "'t Kruikje" owned by the Wildenhain's. Between 1940-1945 at pottery factory "Groeneveldt", Voorschoten. After that he had his own ceramics workshop in Bergen, Noord-Holland. Mark/backstamp: Signed with D H, together 2 half spheres.

Derk Holman strived in Goningen for the purety of (classical) shape & glaze (half mat glazes). This potter made decorative art pottery, sculptures, plastieken (monumental ceramic sculptures on commission), mosaic work. Decorate with gouge technics. Mark/backstamp: Derk Holman.

The first jars of pottery factory/aardewerkfabriek de Kat were designed by Chr. van der Hoef, their designs are very familiar with Amstelhoek. Till 1905 technical problems with their oven. Backstamp/mark Bergen op Zoom, cat figure and 3 crosses-stamp.

Kennemerland, Velsen, Potterie       


Eelke Snel's goal was cheap but beautiful pottery, straight, simple models (plain yellow/grey) with line and square decoration (brick pattern) mostly in bright clear primary colours (a free interpretation) of De Stijl. But also green, orange, grey and lilac decorations at Pottery factory Kennemer Pottenbakkerij. In the 1930's decoration developed in the direction of the modern non-figurative art of painting, straight models & decorations. The dutch population calls it Velser Pottery. Mark/backstamp see picture.

Pieter Cornelis Köhler had his own pottery factory, Pottenbakkerij P.C.Köhler, between 1913-1927. Before he was employed at Westraven and Potterij Rembrandt. Mark/backstamp:  Nijmegen, Holland sometimes with a flowerbasket on top.

Porceleinfabriek de Kroon, this porcelain factory is founded by E. Estié, Decorative art pottery mostly identical of Zuid Holland, dinner sets, sprayed green/black background, under glaze, with clear enamel like colours, own decorations, geometrical with floral motifs. Mark/backstamp: Crown, Noordwijk Holland or Crown, shield & Amsterdam.

Chris Lebeau was an important representative of the Dutch Art Deco & Art Nouveau, multi talented and very productive. In 1925 Lebeau was drawn to the potters art, drawed designs for Amphora pottery, intended for mass production.Worked with Gerrit de Blanken and designed in 1926 ceramics for R. Guérin te Bouffioulx (Belgium). Mark/backstamp see picture.

Luigi de Lerma was married with Sophie de Lerma-van der Does de Willebois, had their own workshop/pottery factory of tile-sceneries (1935) in Groenekan. Continuation under the name Potterie de Groenekan BV from 1965 till 1981.

Lion Cachet, Carel Adolph       


In 1898/1909/1910 designed  Carel Lion Cachet for Petrus Regout Royal commemorative pottery like a batik Wilhelmina-plate for the school-childern (77.875 pieces). In 1899 he designed tile-sceneries with lyre bird-motifs for Rozenburg. Same decorations were found on 2 ear-vases at Amstelhoek. Merk: L C.

Lorm, Cornelis de       


Decorative art designer Cornelis de Lorm, made his first designs in 1923 (- 1930's) for the Decorative Art Department of Pottery factory Zuid Holland. First a tea service/set and later on a complete breakfast service Zonnebloem/Sunflower (radish shaped) in mat or glossy yellow, turquoise, white and moss-green, came on the market in 1925. He designed also the advertisement material for this decor Sunflower.
